Succession

And

Stand Development

*In Ecology, the general definition of succession is: the process by which a plant or animal community successively gives way to another until a stable climax is reached.
*Stand Development: What I have read on Forestyencyclopedia it seems to be a more descriptive definition of succession. With individual steps and process developments. Such as below ↓
*Say that a new island formed off of one of the Hawaiian volcanoes creating a large empty landmass. While the island is young, it has a barren landscape and very rugged terrain. As time goes by, slowly, dust from the air and minerals brought there by animals start creating a layer of soil. From there, pioneer plants form, generally short and hardy grasses. As the grass grows, dies, and decomposes, it creates new soil to add and compile on its self. Then it will be deep enough for plants with bigger roots to form, such as small shrubs or bushes, or even the start of trees. As seen above ↑
